‘We’re ready’: Maritimers, restaurants, gets menu set for Super Bowl Sunday

The game may be the main attraction on Super Bowl Sunday, but the food is a valuable player.

According to Dalhousie University’s agri-food lab director Sylvain Charlebois, chicken will be a popular choice this year, and perhaps a cheaper one.

“We’re not expecting as many to go for beef because beef is very expensive. But we are expecting pork, sausages, for example. Bacon of course, and chicken to be extremely popular,” he says.

He adds many people will opt out of cooking it this year and will instead order take-out.

“Because of the winter we’re having in Canada, not just here, but in Canada, a lot of people will likely order in, so we are expecting a lot of drivers around delivering food at people’s homes.”

As such, local sports bars and pubs are making sure they’re ready for that take-out traffic.

Colin Grant, the owner of Midtown Tavern and Lounge in downtown Halifax, says he is getting set for a big crowd Sunday.

“We’re ready. We have nachos, potato skins, chicken wings, and fried pepperoni, especially,” says Grant. “Any time you can get a group of people in here, it’s a lot of fun.”
