Two men have been arrested following a fatal side-by-side collision in West Dalhousie, N.S.

Two men have been arrested for impaired driving causing death following a fatal side-by-side collision in West Dalhousie, N.S., Saturday.

RCMP responded to an off-highway collision near Heartland Road at around 4:40 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found two side-by-side vehicles in the ditch and a man was also lying on the ground with several people gathered around.

After some investigation, police determined the two vehicles had collided, which resulted in the passenger, a 72-year-old man from West Dalhousie, being ejected from the vehicle before it rolled over onto him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Carleton Corner, was minorly injured. He was taken to the hospital where he was arrested for impaired operation causing death.

The man was taken to the Bridgetown RCMP Detachment and is being held in custody pending a court appearance Monday.

The driver of the other side-by-side, a 49-year-old man from West Dalhousie, was also arrested for impaired operation causing death shortly after the incident. He was taken to the Middleton RCMP Detachment where he was later released pending a future court appearance.

Police say a third side-by-side was also present at the time of the collision, but it was not believed to have been involved.
