Two men arrested, charged after allegedly running from police in Cape Breton

Two men in Cape Breton are facing charges after a driver allegedly refused to stop for police and locked himself in a residence over the weekend.

Police say they located a suspicious vehicle parked at an Esso station on Main Street in Sydney Mines at around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.

When police approached the vehicle, the vehicle allegedly turned onto Main Street at a high speed and continued driving away from attempts to stop the vehicle.

Police decided not to pursue the vehicle but continued to patrol the area, locating the vehicle parked nearby a home on Cook Street.

The driver of the vehicle then saw police and ran into a residence where a second person helped block police from entering the front door.

Police contained the area and obtained a search warrant where they entered the home and arrested three people. After further investigation, one man was released without charges, while the other two were remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre.

Timothy Ronald Jessome, 55, of Sydney Mines is charged with:

• flight from police
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• resisting arrest
• assaulting police

The second man, 39-year-old John Daniel MacQuarrie of Inverness, is charged with obstruction and assaulting police.
