Two adults and three youths have been charged in connection to an assault on two women in downtown Halifax last summer.

Hussein Mashhour, 19, and three 18-year-olds – two of whom were 17 at the time of the assault – have been charged with assault causing bodily harm. One of the 18-year-olds cannot be named at this time as his charge has not yet been sworn before the courts.

A 17-year-old has also been charged with two counts of assault.

The identities of the youths are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police responded to a report of two women – age 21 and 23 – who had been attacked by a group of people on Argyle Street around 1:50 a.m. on June 23, 2024.

In a previous interview with CTV News Atlantic, Emma MacLean said a group attacked her and her girlfriend that night. She also said the attackers pushed her girlfriend onto cement stairs and punched and kicked her.

Mashhour last appeared in court in January. The four other accused are scheduled to appear in court at unspecified dates.
