Suspect charged with attempted murder after man shot with BB gun in Yarmouth County

A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a 22-year-old man with a BB gun in Quinan, N.S.

Yarmouth RCMP officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 7700 block of Highway 308 around 5:35 p.m. Saturday.

Police say two men who knew one another got into an altercation outside a home and one man shot the other. The suspect then allegedly fled the scene in a grey SUV.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

While en route, the responding RCMP officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Highway 308, heading out of the Quinan area.

“They followed the vehicle and initiated a high-risk traffic stop entering onto Hwy. 103 in Tusket,” said police Tuesday. “The three occupants, two women and a man, were safely arrested.”

Officers determined the firearm was actually a BB gun and one of the women arrested was not involved in the incident, so she was released without charges.

Luke Stephen John Boyd of Digby, N.S., is facing the following charges:

• attempt to commit murder
• assault with a weapon
• uttering threats
• multiples firearms offences
• two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Boyd has been remanded into custody. He’s due in Yarmouth provincial court on June 9.

The other woman who was arrested, 25-year-old Chelsea Edwards of Digby, has been charged with the following offences:

• assault with a weapon
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle

Edwards was released to appear in Yarmouth provincial court on July 6.
