Screen Nova Scotia is looking for properties to list as potential filming locations for local, national and international producers as part of their “Starring your Property Program.”
“It’s an opportunity for just about anyone who’s interested in involving themselves in the film industry to list their properties as a filming location and they could be anything from homes to businesses,” said Melanie Solomon, locations and industry services manager for Screen Nova Scotia, in an interview with CTV’s Crystal Garrett Thursday.
“We are very interested in working with municipalities and towns and just expanding what we can offer to the province as a film industry both on a national level and international level.”
Since relaunching the program in February, Screen Nova Scotia says it has received more than 115 new properties to add to the database, which holds over 1,100 properties across the province.
Solomon says they are currently looking for any type of property.
“I think there is a misconception when people think about film production, they think glamour, they think large, they think high-end. We are getting inquiries that range from a very typical American bungalow to a high-end property overlooking the ocean and truly we want it all,” said Solomon.

“If a production is interested in using the location, I would contact the homeowner and make sure they are feeling comfortable with the request on hand. I will then do a site visit with the homeowner and production to work out any details such as costs and insurance details and then determine and ensure the production and the homeowner/business owner are happy at the end of the day before they enter contract,” Solomon added.
Anyone interested in registering their property as a potential filming location can apply on Screen Nova Scotia’s website.
