People will no longer be able to pay using MACPASS Plus at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

As of Monday, March 3, customers must take a ticket upon entering the parking facilities and use another payment option. The Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) said this change is being implemented in preparation of the removal of tolls from the Halifax Harbour Bridges.

HIAA said customers who used MACPASS Plus to park prior to March 3 will still be able to exit and their account will be charged as usual.

Bridge tolls

The tolls on the MacKay and Macdonald bridges will be lifted on April 1 when the province takes over the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission and makes it a Crown corporation.

Premier Tim Houston promised to eliminate the tolls during last fall’s election campaign and included it in February’s budget.

The province will spend $86 million from the public works budget for bridge maintenance this year and another $15 million for operating costs.

Drivers with remaining balances in their MACPASS accounts after April 1 will receive a refund.
