The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has ruled a shooting in Dartmouth, N.S., on Sunday a homicide.
Halifax Regional Police say responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Lahey Road and Clarence Street at approximately 2:50 a.m.
“Upon arrival, officers located a male and a female suffering from gunshot wounds. Both parties were transferred to the QEII for their injuries, where the male passed as a result,” Cst. Martin Cromwell, public information officer with Halifax Regional Police, told CTV News on Monday.
Cromwell says the man who died was 30-years-old.
The woman is 48-years-old and according to police, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Halifax police tell CTV News the parties were known to each other but could not provide further information about their relation.
Asma Rokadiya, a resident in the area, describes hearing four gunshots go off as she was trying to sleep.
“It was very disturbing. I feel like if someone was sleeping, they would wake up,” says Rokadiya.

She says the community has experienced similar incidents in recent months and it’s concerning to see, especially in an area often occupied by children.
“It’s very disturbing for me (and) for everyone living here. And (to know) someone has passed away…it’s very bad. I can’t express how I’m feeling right now,” says Rokadiya.
Police also could not confirm if anyone has been arrested.
“The investigation is in the early stages. Investigators are looking at all and any avenues,” says Cromwell.
Investigators are asking anyone with information, or who may have video from the area at the time of the incident, to call them at 902-490-5020.
