New specialized infant feeding centre opening in Halifax

Parents in need of support with infant feeding now have access to a new specialized centre in Halifax.

Nova Scotia Health says the new Public Health Infant Feeding Centre will offer one-on-one guidance weekly at the Mumford Professional Centre, beginning this month.

The centre aims to help families navigate common feeding challenges, such as latching, positioning, milk supply, and pumping.

“Learning to feed your baby is one of the important parts of early parenting,” said Katherine Malec, early years manager for Central Zone Public Health. “Our goal is to ensure families feel supported every step of the way.”

Public Health and Primary Health Care are partnering to offer the service. The centre will be staffed by Public Health nurses, who will provide individualized support. A nurse practitioner associated with the clinic can address more complex issues, like tongue ties.

The Public Health Infant Feeding Centre offers appointments every Tuesday. Families can book by calling 902-221-2366 or emailing [e-mail]. Health-care providers and community organizations that support families can also make referrals to the clinic.
