A new partnership between a pair of airlines could mean more connectivity out of smaller, regional Maritime airports.
On Wednesday, Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation announced a codeshare that will allow people to book through one airline and catch a connecting flight with the other.
For example, passengers at the JA Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport would be able to fly Sydney-to-Halifax on a Pascan flight and connect via Porter to other cities that airport officials say will include Ottawa, Toronto (Billy Bishop), Hamilton and St. John’s, N.L.
For the airport in Sydney, that means more connectivity to those destinations – but it doesn’t mean a new airline flying out of Cape Breton.
“Porter will not be flying out of here”, said Courtney Davis, manager of marketing and communications for the Sydney Airport. “It’s a full codeshare, so you book with Porter, but they use Pascan to feed into their service, so you would start here with Pascan and you would link onto Porter. So, they are currently available for booking through the Porter website or you can call the Pascan reservations line.”
The airport in Sydney still has only three direct flights to Toronto Pearson, Montreal and Halifax.
However, a new WestJet flight between Sydney and Calgary is set to operate twice weekly at peak between June and October.
