Municipality of Cumberland, N.S., will demolish unsafe building in Parrsboro

The Municipality of Cumberland will demolish a building on Main Street in Parrsboro, N.S., deemed to be in immediate danger of collapse.

RCMP closed the road from 237 to 245 Main Street until further notice, said a Saturday news release. Barricades are in place and the public is asked to avoid the area.

Chief administrative officer Greg Herrett said the municipality determined the site at 241 Main Street was unsafe after a recent complaint prompted an investigation.

An order to vacate was issued for the property until a demolition hearing at municipal council. The hearing is scheduled for the April 28 council meeting.

The building has shifted and is in imminent danger of collapse, said Herrett. An order for demolition has been issued by the administrator of dangerous and unsightly properties.

RCMP and the Parrsboro Fire Department have secured the scene, said Herrett.
