Man facing multiple charges after Halifax police recover stolen vehicle

A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Halifax police recovered a stolen vehicle on Monday night.

Officers responded to a reported theft of a Volkswagen Jetta from a parking lot at 2651 Windsor St. in Halifax around 9:35 p.m. on Sunday.

They learned the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of his running vehicle when an unknown man got in the driver’s seat, threatened him with a knife and drove away, according to a Halifax Regional Police news release.

The victim was not physically injured.

At roughly 11:30 p.m. on Monday, an officer spotted the stolen vehicle at a parking lot at 101 Wyse Rd. in Dartmouth. The vehicle fled when the officer activated their emergency lights.

“Multiple patrol units responded and pursued the vehicle through Burnside Industrial Park onto Wright Avenue where they were able to bring the vehicle to a stop and arrest the driver,” the release reads. “There were no reported injuries.”

Police say the driver was also a suspect in other recent thefts.

Ryan Colbourne appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges of:

• evading police
• disguise with intent
• dangerous operation of a conveyance
• robbery
• four counts of operation of a conveyance while prohibited
• possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
• theft under $5,000
• uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
• two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• resisting arrest
• four counts of failure to comply with a probation order
