A 36-year-old man has been charged after Cape Breton police say he ran from the scene of a collision in Sydney, N.S.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Cottage Road around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police say witnesses reported seeing a man and woman run from one of the vehicles.
Police patrolled the area and found two people matching the description of those involved in the crash.
“When they saw police, the man tried to run away, but officers caught him and arrested him,” reads a news release from Cape Breton police.
The force says officers noticed signs of impairment and requested a breath sample, which the man allegedly refused.
John William Aaron Hickey has been charged with:
- failure to stop after an accident
- failure to comply with a demand
- resisting a peace officer
- failure to attend court on previous charges
The occupant of the second vehicle involved in the collision was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the woman was released without charges.
