Ice fisherman found dead, another still missing in Annapolis County

The search is on for an ice fisherman after the body of another ice fisher was found Wednesday.

One ice fisherman has been found dead and the search for a second is ongoing after the men were reported missing in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis County.

Annapolis District RCMP and local fire services received a report around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday that a 73-year-old man and 77-year-old man had not returned from ice fishing near Little Brook Lane in Belleisle, N.S.

“Overnight, RCMP remotely piloted aircraft system operators and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre conducted air searches while fire services conducted searches in the water,” said the RCMP in a news release.

One man was found dead Wednesday afternoon.

The search for the second is ongoing.

Police say Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue, Digby Ground Search and Rescue, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), and Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources are all involved in the search.

Police are asking residents to avoid the area and stay off the ice.
