The A. Murray MacKay Bridge that crosses the Halifax Harbour will be closed this weekend.
The bridge will be closed to vehicles from 7 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) says the closure will allow for work to begin on the removal of the toll booth plaza.

“Drivers of commercial vehicles are reminded they are not permitted to use the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge,” reads a news release from the commission.
“Traffic congestion is expected, and extra travel time may be required to reach destinations.”
HHB says further work will be required on the MacKay.

Motorists experienced toll-free crossings of both the MacKay and Macdonald bridges on March 17 for the first time in 70 years.

Premier Tim Houston promised to eliminate the tolls during last fall’s election campaign in an effort to ease traffic congestion.
