Nova Scotia’s police watchdog says an officer will not be charged after a woman injured her foot during her arrest in Hammonds Plains last year.
Officers were called to a domestic dispute at a shopping plaza on the corner of Hammonds Plains Road and the Bedford Highway on Sept. 14, 2024.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says several people called 911 to say a man and a woman were arguing and the woman was hitting the man and ripping his clothes off.
An officer with Halifax Regional Police found the woman in a vehicle in the parking lot.
SiRT says she ran away from the officer, jumped over a fence that had a drop of over 15 feet on the other side, and fractured her foot.
SiRT received a referral from Halifax police the next day and began investigating the incident.
The team’s director, Erin Nauss, says she has found no grounds to believe the officer’s actions resulted in the woman’s injury.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
