Fatal crash on Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail under investigation: RCMP

A 20-year-old man from South Harbour, N.S., has died following a single-vehicle crash on Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash near Blaze Road in Big Intervale around 7:45 p.m. on May 30.

“Officers learned that a white Honda Civic had left the road and hit the ditch. One occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from South Harbour, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second occupant was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP.

Police say several bystanders helped the occupants of the vehicle while they waited for first responders to arrive.

In addition to RCMP officers, fire services, and EHS, a collision reconstruction and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service attended the scene.

The force is asking any witnesses who have yet to speak with police, or anyone with dashcam footage that shows a white Honda Civic on the Cabot Trail or surrounding roads during the evening of May 30, to contact the Victoria County District RCMP at 902-285-2021.
