It may still be two years away, but the countdown is officially on for Canada Pride 2027 in Halifax.
“We’re about to take on this two-year journey to host the event on a national scale, so we’re really excited,” said Halifax Pride Executive Director Fiona Kerr.
On Friday, Halifax Pride held its first annual Atlantic Pride Pageant at Spatz Theatre as its kick-off for the 2027 festival.
“We’re hosting the launch to get the city excited, to let people know we’re hosting, and then we’re going to spend the next two years planning the event and bringing the city along with us,” said Kerr.
Participants were competing to become an ambassador for both Halifax Pride and the Atlantic region. The event showcased up-and-coming drag artists and seasoned talent.
“We’re super excited to launch the event with this amazing drag pageant with talent from all over the region. From P.E.I., from New Brunswick, from right here in Halifax,” said Kerr.
Penny Cillin was ultimately crowned the winner and will represent Halifax Pride at events over the next two years.
Halifax Pride will still be hosting its regular festival in the lead up to the national event.
“So, lots of work but we’re super, super excited,” said Kerr.
The 2025 Halifax Pride Festival runs from July 17 to 27. Canada Pride will take over Halifax from July 15 to 25, 2027.
