Cape Bretoners seize the day during early spring-like weather

Maritimers were happy to enjoy an early taste of spring on the tail-end of winter.

Many Cape Bretoners took advantage of the spring-like weather on Tuesday.

“I love it,” said Jacqueline Rasmussen, who lives in Sydney’s north end. “Love it, can’t get enough of it. I’m over with winter.”

“It’s warm,” said fellow Sydney resident Russell McKinnon while walking downtown. “It’s nice. If I had have known, I would have left my jacket home.”

With an afternoon high of roughly 13 C, some were wearing shorts and others short sleeves.

With several days in a row of plus temperatures, the big snowbanks from January and February have been taking a beating.

Some people were even able to get out on their bicycles for their first time this year.

“(It’s)so nice and your spirits are lifted, and you just feel like you can go forever,” said cyclist Anna Deveaux.

In some parts of the Maritimes, afternoon temperatures reached even higher.

However, come Wednesday conditions are expected to change back to more typical March weather.

“We’re trying not to think about that,” Deveaux said.
