Cape Breton RCMP officer charged with uttering threats

A Cape Breton RCMP officer has been charged with uttering threats following an investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT).

The Baddeck RCMP contacted SiRT about one of their officers allegedly uttering a threat against a woman known to them on Feb. 26, according to a news release.

Following an investigation, Const. Rickey Krszwda was charged with uttering threats on Wednesday. They are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

In a separate news release, Dan Morrow, acting commanding officer with the Nova Scotia RCMP, said Krszwda is currently on leave.

“An internal code of conduct investigation has been initiated and is ongoing,” Morrow said. “Cst. Krszwda’s duty status will be continuously assessed throughout both the court and internal processes.

“Our employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that not only meets, but exceeds, the rightfully high expectations of Canadians.”

SiRT handles investigations involving death, intimate partner violence, sexual assault and serious injury that may have arisen from the actions of police officers in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
