Cape Breton police release age of hit-and-run victim

Cape Breton police are investigating a hit and run over the weekend.

The Cape Breton Regional Police has released more information about a weekend hit-and-run that left a woman dead.

Officers responded to a section of the Louisbourg Highway between Kristin Court and Hills Road in Albert Bridge, N.S., around 11:50 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived on scene, police say the body of a young woman was found near the roadway and parts of a vehicle were also discovered.

Although they were not called until late Sunday morning, police say they believe the collision happened sometime Saturday night.

The section of road was closed for several hours Sunday with a significant police presence, but traffic in the area was back to normal Monday.

Police say the victim’s name is not being released at this time.

The Cape Breton Regional Police Forensic Ident and Traffic Safety Units are investigating.

“Through the initial investigation, it was determined it was a 23-year-old female who was deceased and the victim of a hit and run,” said CBRPS Staff Sgt. Darren Barrington. “There are no leads on the vehicle right now. Police are determining the make and model of the vehicle from some of the evidence left at the scene.”

Barrington added police are still seeking tips from the public as the investigation continues.
