Cape Breton man convicted in hit-and-run death of young girl granted full parole

A man convicted in the hit-and-run death of a girl in Cape Breton has been granted parole.

The man convicted in the hit-and-run death of a young girl in Cape Breton more than six years ago has been granted full parole, according to the girl’s family.

The mother of ten-year-old Talia Forrest confirmed the Parole Board of Canada’s decision to CTV Atlantic on Wednesday.

Forrest has been riding her bike on Black Rock Road in Cape Breton’s Victoria County in July 2019 when she was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle.

In July 2024, following a pair of trials, the driver – Colin Hugh Tweedie – was sentenced to four and a half years in prison on counts of dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.

In June 2025, Tweedie was granted day parole less than a year into his sentence.

Details of his release conditions and further details of the Parole Board’s decision have yet to be confirmed.
