Year of the Horse celebrated at Fredericton gala

The Year of the Horse was welcomed with music, dance, and vibrant colours at the Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick’s Lunar New Year Gala in Fredericton on Saturday.

The theme of this year’s gala – Colours of China – was arranged in four different sections: the Blue-Green Overture, the Whitening Dawn, the Quiet Black-the Warmth Yellow, and the Crimson Joy Across the Land.

“I’m so proud of our team,” says Lan Hu, president of the association. “They spent almost a year putting everything together. There are over 150 performers and volunteers. They did awesome.”

The association was formed in 1977 to celebrate Chinese culture across New Brunswick through public events and education.

Next year, the Year of the Goat, will mark the association’s 50th anniversary.

“We will take a break for one week after tonight and then our team will meet and see what we can do for next year,” says Hu. “That will definitely be a very big event.”

On Sunday at 2 p.m., the Greater Saint John Chinese Cultural Association will host the Greater Saint John Lunar New Year at the Imperial Theatre.

Last week, the Greater Moncton Vietnamese Association hosted its Lunar New Year Celebration in Dieppe.
