Traffic operation leads to three arrests, one person charged: N.B. RCMP

The RCMP says they arrested three people and charged one other person following a traffic operation in Southern Victoria, N.B.

Police conducted a joint traffic operation in Southern Victoria and Carleton North area between Friday and Sunday, leading to more than 200 traffic stops in two days.

On Friday, police say a vehicle fled officers in the Plaster Rock area. After deploying a tire deflation device, police say the vehicle stopped but the driver fled on foot, quickly being arrested.

The vehicle was impounded and the 25-year-old driver from Odell was released from custody pending a later court appearance.

Police say another vehicle fled from officers at high speed in Florenceville-Bristol area around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Police followed the vehicle by air services, and the driver, a 50-year-old man from East Brighton was arrested.

The vehicle was also impounded and the driver was released from custody pending a court appearance at a later date.

A third vehicle fled police at a high speed in the Perth-Andover area around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Officers used a tire deflation device, which was successful, leading to the driver and a second person bring arrested.

Police say the vehicle was impounded and officers found a loaded rifle inside. The second person was released from custody.

In a news release Thursday, police say the driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Shayne Cameron of Woodstock, appeared in court on Monday and was charged with:

• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• flight from police
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• fail to comply with a probation

Cameron was remanded into custody and is set to appear in court again at a later date.

“In recent years, we’ve noticed an increase in drivers failing to stop for police,” said Sgt. Robert Dickinson of the Perth-Andover RCMP Detachment in a news release Thursday.

“That behaviour puts everyone at risk. In response, we assembled a dedicated team to address the situation and ensure these dangerous incidents are dealt with quickly and safely.”
