A wildfire in southwest New Brunswick is currently out of control, but officials say the risk to the public is low. The New Brunswick Emergency Management Office (NBEMO) says the fire near the Oromocto Lake and Brockway was first detected around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. There are currently no evacuation requirements. As of 6 p.m. Thursday, the fire has spread to 10-hectares and is 50 per cent contained. “A small group of recreational camps in the area, located on crown land, are being notified of the potential risk,” the NBEMO said in a statement. “Residents in the area are encouraged to continue monitoring the current situation.“ DNR fire crews are on scene working to contain the wildfire.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
