Second N.B. man charged with murder in Chipman double-homicide

A second man has been charged in connection with the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a burned-out vehicle in Chipman, N.B., in November.

The RCMP arrested 34-year-old Corey Agnew of Minto, N.B., at a home on Route 123 in Chipman around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Agnew has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 47-year-old Robert Waugh and 23-year-old Victoria King.

Agnew appeared in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday morning. He was remanded into custody and is due back in court on Feb. 20.

Second arrest

Police also arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the case on Sunday. Mark Elley of Chipman has also been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Waugh and King.

Elley appeared in Fredericton provincial court on Monday and was remanded into custody. He is due back in court on Feb. 10.

Bodies found in burned-out vehicle

Chipman RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle on fire with two people inside off Midland Road around 8 a.m. on Nov. 25, 2024.

When officers arrived, they found two bodies inside a burned-out Chevrolet Equinox.

Investigators quickly determined their deaths were the result of a double-homicide.

Last month, police asked for help in locating a red Toyota Corolla they said was a “vehicle of interest” in the case.

Investigators identified the two victims, who were both from the Fredericton area, on Jan. 6.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
