Saint John man sentenced for possessing, accessing child sex abuse material

A Saint John, N.B., man has been sentenced to four years in prison in connection with an investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

As part of the investigation, which began in February 2021, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Wallace Court in Saint John on June 29, 2021. Officers arrested a man at the scene and seized several electronic devices.

Anthony Lee Guthrie, 51, appeared in Saint John provincial court on Nov. 25, 2021, and was charged with:

• possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material
• make available child sexual abuse and exploitation material
• accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material

On Jan. 12, 2026, Guthrie pleaded guilty to charges related to making available, possession of, and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

He was sentenced to four years in prison on March 24. He was ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry, to provide a DNA sample, and will have to abide by conditions set out by the court following his release from prison.
