N.B. senior pleads guilty to murdering man in Pointe-Sapin in 2024

A New Brunswick senior has pleaded guilty to murdering a 52-year-old man in Pointe-Sapin almost two years ago.

The RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a home on Route 117 around 2 p.m. on April 13, 2024.

Officers found the body of a man at the scene. He was later identified as André Després.

No one else was injured.

Police quickly located and arrested a suspect with help from a Parks Canada peace officer.

Alphonse Daigle of Pointe-Sapin was charged with first-degree murder in the case. He was 70 years old at the time of his arrest.

The RCMP says Daigle appeared in court in Moncton on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in the death of Després.

Daigle was remanded into custody pending his sentencing on May 20.
