N.B. coroner’s inquest to look into two workplace deaths

A New Brunswick coroner’s inquest will look into two workplace deaths from 2024.

Marcel Gagnon died at the Edmundston Regional Hospital after an incident at a quarry in the Saint-Joseph de Madawaska area of the northwest rural district on July 23, 2024, according to a news release from the provincial government.

Jean-Eudes Doiron died due to a workplace accident at the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s worksite in the Rang-St-Georges district of Hautes-Terres on Oct. 10, 2024.

The province says regional coroner Danny Mallet and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding the deaths before making recommendations to prevent deaths under similar circumstances.

The inquest is scheduled to run from April 13 to 17 at the Campbellton courthouse.
