Miramichi, N.B., police seize 23K meth tablets in drug trafficking investigation

The Miramichi Police Force in New Brunswick seized more than 23,000 methamphetamine tablets and a kilogram of illicit cannabis as part of a drug trafficking investigation last week.

Police say they arrested two people last Thursday following a multi-month investigation into cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking in the region. They also executed a search warrant at a Saint Norbert residence.

Police seized:

• 2.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine
• 400 grams of crystal methamphetamine
• more than 23,000 tablets of methamphetamine
• one kilogram of illicit cannabis
• a loaded 20-gauge shotgun
• more than $80,000 in Canadian currency

Jeremie Cormier from Saint Norbert and Julie Surette from Cocagne appeared in court on Friday and were charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, according to police.

Surette was released on conditions and will return to court at a later date. Cormier was held in custody and was scheduled to have a bail hearing on Tuesday.
