Snowy Monday possible next week in the Maritimes

A low-pressure system moving out of the U.S. Midwest is expected to strengthen as it moves over the Gulf of Maine and then east of the Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia on Monday.

There will be cold air in place across the Maritimes ahead of the arrival of the low. The combination has the potential to bring a disruptive snowfall to parts of the region.

Snow will likely develop Sunday overnight through Monday morning. The snow is expected to end Monday afternoon for western areas and Monday evening for eastern parts of the region.

Potential snow totals have varied in computer model guidance through the end of this week. You will want to check for forecast updates on the weekend.

In Nova Scotia I’d caution on a potential snowfall of two-to-10 cm for Atlantic coastal areas, and 10-to-15 cm for the interior and especially higher elevations, such as Cobequid, Mount Thom, and the Cape Breton Highlands.

For Prince Edward Island, five-to-10 cm of snow is anticipated.

Northern areas of New Brunswick will see very little snow, if any, while Fredericton south to the Bay of Fundy coastline could see one-to-five centimetres.
