HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia Teachers Union has a new president.
Ryan Lutes, a mathematics teacher at Halifax West High School, edged out Peter Day in a second-ballot vote held Thursday.
Lutes won with 51 per cent of the vote.
The run-off was made necessary after a vote held May 25 did not produce a winner.
Lutes is a 15-year teaching veteran and formerly served as the union local president in Halifax from 2015 to 2021.
He replaces Paul Wozney, who had served as president of the 9,500 member union since August 2018.
