A woman is in hospital after she slipped and fell off the dock at the Comox Valley Marina Thursday morning.

The Comox Fire Department responded to the call and firefighters pulled the elderly woman out of the water.

Fire crews say the woman didn’t suffer any significant injuries, but she did hit her head on a boat.

The woman’s husband was at the marina at the time of the fall, but he couldn’t get her out of the water.

People nearby helped the couple by holding onto the woman until firefighters arrived.

Officials say falls at the marina are common during the summer.

“It’s a very busy time of the year. We just tell people to be careful down here and if they can wear PFD’s when they’re on the dock it would certainly help,” Assistant Chief Rick Shelton said.

The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for further assessment.
