Environment Canada is warning residents of east and west Vancouver Island of another approaching storm will bring strong winds with it.

A deep low pressure system is expected to cause winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour, with gusts of up to 100 km/h, over exposed coastal parts of western Vancouver Island early Wednesday night.

The storm will also result in winds of up to 70 km/h over the eastern part of the island as well as the Strait of Georgia, according to Environment Canada.

The strong winds will ease off overnight as the storm moves north and weakens.

The agency is warning residents that it could cause damage to buildings, including roof shingles and windows, toss loose items around or lead to tree branches snapping.

A wind warning is also in effect for the Sunshine Coast.
