Excitement is in the air in Victoria as thousands of people anxiously await the Royal Family’s first B.C. appearance.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will arrive at the B.C. Legislature on Saturday afternoon where they’ll be greeted by thousands of spectators, political dignitaries and journalists.

Dozens of people started gathering on the lawn of the legislature bright and early.

"There’s just this energy in the air right now because the people that really want to see this are here now with us," Lesley Atherton told CTV News. "It’s amazing."

The Royal visit will officially begin when Will and Kate, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, land at the 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron at the Victoria International Airport.

The Royal Family will then make its way to Government House where they’ll be greeted by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Judith Guichon.

Their next stop will be the B.C. Legislature for the official welcome ceremony.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and B.C. Premier Christy Clark will be at the event.

Will and Kate will lay a wreath at the cenotaph and have a minute of silence.

The ceremony will include a 21-gun salute, inspecting of the Guard of Honour, commanded by Lieutenant-Commander Michael Erwin, and a traditional dance by the Songhees Nation.

The flag party will carry the Queen’s colours.

The Victoria Children’s Choir along with the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy have been invited to perform two songs.

The Duchess will then be presented with flowers from 14-year-old Victoria Foster from Ottawa. It’s been Foster’s wish to meet the Royal Family, which was made possible by The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Will and Kate will then head to Government House, where they will meet with the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston.

Trudeau and his wife Sophie will also be at Government House, where they will have a private audience with the Royals.

This is Will and Kate’s second official tour of Canada, their first trip was in 2011 as newlyweds.

The Royal couple will tour other parts of B.C. and the Yukon over their week-long visit.
