Just in time for the Thanksgiving long weekend, we’re in for rain on Vancouver Island. Depending on where you are, the rain will be heavy, but you may get some breaks in the clouds. As we’ve seen over the past several mornings, fog will be the norm in the early hours of the day.

A weak cold front is approaching bringing the first round of rain today and tonight. We’ll wake up to fog tomorrow morning, with maybe a few sunny breaks in Victoria. The showers will continue in the island though, thanks to a steady westerly onshore flow. It looks like Sunday will be dry for most of the morning and mid-day hours. That’s good news for the thousands of runners participating the Victoria Marathon, or one of its many other shorter races. I’m thankful for Sunday’s forecast as I don’t want to run my first 8km road race in the pouring rain!

Besides, the weather, there’s a lot to be thankful for this weekend; comfort food, time with family and friends, an extra day off of work (for some).

This year I’d like to say a special thank you to all the people who have contributed to my weather forecast by sending in Weather Watcher art or photographs. In particular, Joe Beaupre.

Joe was a regular contributor to the show, emailing magnificent photos that really showcased the beauty of the island we are so lucky to call home. I deduced he’s an early riser – often I’d be treated to pictures of the fiery sunrise over Mount Baker. Joe hasn’t sent me a picture in a while, and I just recently found out why. He’s in hospice. His long-time friend emailed me. Joe’s friend asked if I could share one of his past submissions with CTV News viewers as a “nice farewell to Joe”. It’s my pleasure to feature Joe’s photography one more time.

When I blogged about Joe’s photography last August, I remarked “while the view may be similar, no two are the same. All are beautiful. It has been a pleasure showcasing Joe’s view of the world, whether it’s an early morning view over the city or the wildlife in Beacon Hill Park.” Truly, it’s been a treat to feature his work.

Thank you, Joe, for sharing your art with me and our viewers.
