Update: Investigators have released a composite suspect sketch of a man accused of randomly assaulting a woman in James Bay last week.

Original story: Victoria Police are searching for a suspect after a seemingly random attack on a woman in James Bay left her bleeding from a wound to the head.

Officials say it happened in the 100-block of Rendall Street at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

A number of people called 911 to say the 30-year-old woman had been assaulted and was bleeding from a head injury.

Bystanders rushed to her aid and police say she was taken to hospital with “significant” but non-life threatening injuries.

Her alleged attacker is described as a six-foot-tall white man between 19 and 24 years old with a slim build, clean shaven face and prominent cheek bones.

He was reportedly wearing baggy, light-coloured shorts, a baggy white T-shirt and a white bicycle helmet.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the assault and have asked the public to report any suspicious individuals matching the suspect description.

“We just want to be cautious, we don’t know what the motive was behind this, so we definitely want people to be looking out,” said Victoria Police spokesman Const. Mike Russell.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
