RCMP say a man connected with a violent home invasion in Nanaimo last week has been arrested.

Thirty-three-year-old Ashley Baird of Victoria allegedly entered a residence with a shotgun on April 20, tied up the residents and assaulted them.

Const. Gary O'Brien says the incident wasn't made public at the time because it was not a random event, and the residents in the home were known to the alleged assailant.

Baird was arrested Tuesday and has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, firearms charges, and drug possession with propose of trafficking.
