Victoria's harbour is about to undergo a seven million dollar expansion.

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority says it will spend the money on adding a second so-called mooring dolphin, which will allow larger ships to visit the area.

Harbour Authority CEO Ian Robertson says they'll ask the cruise line industry to pitch in for the renovations because it's their ships that will use the infrastructure.

The work is set to begin late this year or early in 2018, ahead of a 330-metre-long Norwegian Bliss cruise ship making its first-ever visit to Victoria next June.
