BC Ferries cancelled sailings on several routes on Saturday as the third storm hit B.C.'s South Coast.

The following routes were cancelled as of 3 p.m.:

  • Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay
  • Tsawwassen to Duke Point
  • Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay
  • Tsawwassen to the Southern Gulf Islands

BC Ferries later cancelled sailings between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay due to high winds.

Service is expected to resume Sunday morning.

As of Saturday afternoon, more than 5,000 BC Hydro customers were without power on Vancouver Island.

The powerful storm also affected Harbour Air flights from Vancouver Island to the Mainland.

The City of Victoria closed Ross Bay Cemetery, Beacon Hill Park and Banfield Park as of 5 p.m., citing large trees and branches could present a hazard in high winds.

Esquimalt closed three of its parks as well.

The township said Highrock Park, Saxe Point Park and Rockcrest Park will be reassessed on Monday and a decision to re-open will be made at that time.

A powerful storm also swept over the island on Friday, causing flight and ferry delays and cancellations.

Flooding forced the closure of Cowichan Bay Road, between the Trans-Canada Highway and Tzouhalem Road around 9 p.m.

Earlier this week the province announced it would provide early funding to open Extreme Weather Response Shelters across B.C.

EWR shelters have opened in Duncan, Ladysmith, Port Alberni, Courtenay as a result.

Our Place Society in Victoria has been at capacity for the past three nights.

Staff say they even had to turn people away.
