Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a pair of suspicious fires that damaged or destroyed more than a dozen vehicles over the weekend.

Police and firefighters were called to Central Island Towing on 10th Street for reports of smoke and flames early Saturday.

Crews discovered that a fire was sparked inside of a 52-foot travel trailer and then spread to neighbouring vehicles.

Another fire was started on the other side of the lot in another trailer, but it only smoldered and did not spread to other vehicles or cause much damage.

In all, 10 vehicles were damaged and five were destroyed.

Most of the vehicles were earmarked for salvage and were of little value, police said.

Anyone with information on the fires is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
