The reigning queen of country-pop music is paying a surprise visit to a Victoria naval base.

Shania Twain will meet with sailors, soldiers and air men and women at CFB Esquimalt on Thursday, the base said in a news release.

The release says that Twain will experience the Canadian Armed Forces as she sets foot on the flight deck of HMCS Ottawa before touring the vessel.

"A tour of a submarine, as well as a brief familiarization with army vehicles and equipment will follow," CFB Esquimalt said.

The event takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. and media have been invited to cover the flight deck visit.

Twain has been making the media rounds in recent months to promote her first studio album in 15 years, Now, with an appearance on The Today Show and as a judge on Ru Paul's Drag Race.

She is also embarking on a world tour starting May 3, with a May 5 date set for Vancouver.
