Shawnigan Lake RCMP are looking to speak to witnesses of a two-vehicle collision on the Malahat on Thursday morning.

Police say the crash happened just before 8 a.m. north of the Split Rock view point.

According to RCMP, the preliminary investigation indicates a Mazda pickup truck was travelling southbound on Highway 1 towards Victoria when it crossed the centre line of the highway, colliding with a northbound Chevrolet pickup truck.

The Mazda was hit on the passenger side by the Chevrolet truck.

RCMP say the individual travelling in the Mazda suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The driver has been identified as a 41-year-old woman from the Shawnigan Lake area. Her name is not being released.

An individual in the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries and was transported to Victoria General Hospital. The driver of that truck is cooperating with police.

The Malahat was closed for several hours while crews examined the scene.
