CTV News has learned an elementary school teacher in Port Alberni has been charged with making or publishing child pornography.
A letter sent out to parents by EJ Dunn Elementary School Tuesday informed parents that a teacher, Daniel Oliver, has been charged with the offence.
“The Board also confirms that the nature of the criminal charges and the conditions of Mr. Oliver’s release prevent him performing his teaching duties effective immediately,” the letter says, adding the teacher hasn’t been in class since June 9.
B.C.’s court registry confirms that a Daniel Shaen David Oliver from Port Alberni was charged with making or publishing child pornography June 10. The date of the alleged offence is listed as May 30.
The district said in the letter it is cooperating with RCMP in the investigation.
It also said there’s no reason to believe there’s a connection between the charges against Oliver and School District 70 students, but officials will “follow up as appropriate on any new information arising from the RCMP investigation.”
RCMP and school district officials have not confirmed any details of the incident to CTV News.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
