A 49-year-old Port Alberni man is recovering after he was shot in the leg while he was out for a bike ride early Tuesday morning.

Police say the man was cycling in the area of 3rd Avenue and Mar Street just after 5 a.m. when he was shot.

The victim managed to ride his bike to a nearby Husky gas station where he called police.

According to police, he suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

A 56-year-old Port Alberni man was arrested a few hours later.

The motive of the shooting is unclear at this point, but police say the two men know each other.

They say there is no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing.
