Ontario Provincial Police say a vehicle fire involving a transport truck closed a lengthy stretch of Highway 101 in both directions for more than six hours on Saturday. The closure extended from Highway 129 in Chapleau to Highway 144 in Timmins. Police on scene OPP said officers and other first responders were at the scene at about 1 p.m. on Sunday. “No injuries have been reported,” police said in its initial social media post. Highway reopened In an update shortly before 7 p.m., OPP said the highway had been cleared. “We appreciated your patience and understanding as emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire,” said police. Drivers advised to avoid area OPP had advised the public to plan alternate routes and expect delays early Saturday afternoon. Authorities also encourage motorists to check 511on.ca or call 511 for up-to-date road conditions and closures before travelling.
