Fire crews are investigating after a fire ripped through a duplex in North Saanich early Friday morning.

More than 20 firefighters responded to the blaze that broke out around 1:30 a.m. on Xpaen Lane.

One side of the brand new duplex, which is on Pauchachin First Nation, was completely destroyed and the other side was damaged, according to RCMP.

Fire officials say a man living in the right side unit alerted everyone about the blaze.

No one was injured in the fire.

A fire investigator is being called in to determine the cause.

Mounties say they have no reason to believe it was foul play, but the case is being treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.
