Mounties are searching for a woman accused of stabbing a man at a downtown Nanaimo hotel.

Police received multiple 911 calls reporting the stabbing in a room at Port-O-Call Inn & Suites at around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived they found a 55-year-old man bleeding from an upper body injury. He was treated by paramedics and rushed to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

His attacker is believed to be a 44-year-old woman who police say fled the scene before they arrived.

The man and woman are known to each other and investigators say because of that, they don't believe the public is at risk.

Mounties were on scene at the hotel for hours, cordoning off several rooms while awaiting warrants to retrieve any evidence at the scene.

RCMP say they were searching locations where the woman has been known to frequent. She had not yet been found late Wednesday afternoon.
