RCMP remained on the scene of a homicide investigation at a Nanaimo apartment building Tuesday.

Mounties were called to the apartment unit at 275 Nicol Street by the BC Ambulance Service in the early evening Monday.

An adult male had suffered injuries from an apparent assault and later died as a result, according to RCMP.

Forensic investigators in white suits could be seen going through items on an apartment balcony, and Mounties were also taking photos of the exterior of the building.

Police are tight-lipped about the investigation and only referred to it as a suspicious death in a news release issued Tuesday, but officers on scene confirmed they were investigating a homicide.

Neighbours told CTV News that they heard loud music and screaming coming from a suite between 6 and 7 p.m. Monday night.

No arrests have been made and RCMP are calling it an “isolated incident” that does not appear to pose any threat to the general public.

A Nanaimo RCMP serious crime unit is still investigating and the identity of the deceased man has not been released.
