Yes, Chandler….like Chandler from “Friends.”
With a hatred for nineties sitcoms and a failed junior golf career under his belt, Chandler left Vancouver after high school and headed to the University of Victoria. The plan was to be a P.E teacher, but that idea quickly went out with the short shorts. Instead, a practicum spent in the communications department with UVic Athletics spawned a love for storytelling and the press box.
The next stop was BCIT’s Broadcast Journalism program where Chandler landed internships at TSN, Rogers Sportsnet and The Team 1040. But he saved his best internship for last, when in the spring of 2011 he made his way back to the Island for a practicum with the CTV News Sports Department. Four months later Chandler was hired as a Videographer with the CTV News Mid-Island Bureau in Nanaimo. He spent two years getting to know his camera and every inch of Vancouver Island very well, covering everything from Stanley Cup parties in Port McNeil to Japanese tsunami debris washing up on the shores of Tofino. In September 2013, Chandler moved to Victoria and quickly became a versatile reporter for CTV News at 5. In the spring of the following year, he dove head-first into the sports department, anchoring sports for CTV News at 11. He's now back on the news team as a reporter for CTV News Vancouver Island.
Chandler is the 2014 Bell Media Tour de Rock rider, and will travel 1,100 kilometres by bike to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
